Throwback letter Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa sent to Sir Ahmadu Bello

Nigerian past leaders Chief Obafemi Owolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Murtala Muhammed, Sardauna Sir Ahmadu Bello etc are selfless leaders in history who sacrificed their wealths and resources for betterment of their regions and Nigeria as a whole. In this post we bring to you a historical letter sent to Sir Ahmadu Bello, past Sardauna of Sokoto, by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the most acclaimed selfless leader ever had in Nigeria. Rest in peace to the dead.

Balewa To Sardauna, May 23 1958 Ref.55583/II/405.
You will recalled that, on your recent goodwill visit to Saudi Arabia, you raised with the authorities there the question of the acceptance by them of travel certificates from Nigerians pilgrims after the 1958 pilgrimage season. As the result of your discussions, you addressed a letter to His Royal Highness, Amur Abdullahi Feisal, which formed annexure “D” of the report on your delegation.

I wonder if you can possibly spare the time to broach this subject again on your forthcoming visit to the Hejaz. It may be sometime before we can appoint to the Jeddah post a represantative of suffcient standing to make the high powered approaches that are necessary for matters of so delicate a nature.Your visit seems to be an ideal oppurtinity to follow up your earlier and most succesful talks in the hope of persuading the Saudi authorities to accept travel certificates for subsequent years.
Yours sincerely
Abubakar ………. Balewa
